“It is health that is the real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” – Mahatma Gandhi

The quote sums on the importance of health beautifully. In the world we live in today, where we are always in a rush but do things staying put; advanced technology saves time, yet we are crunched for time; virtually, we are well connected, yet realistically alone; we invest in the market but never invest in ourselves.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is about investing in oneself. It is not an overnight phenomenon or a product that could be bought off the shelf. It is day by day, year by year, nurturing ones’ habits, food, activities, hygiene, and mind towards lowering the risk of being seriously ill or dying early. A healthy lifestyle is not only physical health but mental, social, emotional, and spiritual health too that needs to stay healthy.

A healthy lifestyle lets you do more with life; it enables you to perform optimally both physically and mentally. Your life expectancy increases, you can enjoy greater happy moments; you can better support the family, and it creates a positive vibe. Physical Illness can be a huge deterrent to your dreams and goals in life, while mental Illness can mar the overall environment.  Illness or disease is not always preventable to work towards lowering its probability is in our hands.

A few simple routines can help you easily lead a Healthy Lifestyle.

Eat Right – Eat healthy foods like vegetables, whole grains, fruits, and omega-3 fatty acid-enriched food. Practice moderation in the portions you eat and put your mind to what you eat too.

Drink Right – Drink a lot of water. It’s calorie-free and creates a great balance in the body to the solid we eat. On the other hand, bring about a conscious effort to avoid junk and sugar-sweetened beverages.

Exercise Right – Exercise daily for at least 25 minutes, preferably in the morning. Be it any form of exercise, a run, yoga, a brisk walk. The ideal would start slow and then increase the intensity. Let the feel-good hormones flow and keep you energetic throughout the day.

Think Right – Keep a positive attitude towards life.  Look at life like “The Glass is Half Full.” Train your mind to have self-belief and surround yourself with positive people. Do things that you are passionate about, and that gives you satisfaction.

Sleep Right – Getting quality sleep is of the utmost importance. It rejuvenates the body and mind. It helps me cope with stress and hunger pangs better. Make a conscious effort to get adequate and quality sleep.

In Conclusion

Drastic changes are not required to create a healthy lifestyle; small changes and consistent effort can do the magic. A healthy lifestyle surely changes life significantly not only for oneself but motivates all others around too.  Thus, it is in self-interest and our responsibility towards society to pursue a healthy lifestyle.
