HIIT Can Strengthen Consumption of Oxygen
Consumption of oxygen refers to the muscles’ capacity to use oxygen, and endurance training is usually used to enhance the consumption of oxygen. Traditionally, this consists of long sessions at a steady pace of continuous running or cycling. However, it appears that HIIT may deliver the same advantages in a shorter period. One study found that for 20 minutes per session, five weeks of HIIT workouts conducted four days per week increased oxygen consumption by 9 percent. This was almost similar to the increase in oxygen consumption in the other research group, which cycled continuously, four days a week, for 40 minutes a day.
